The Municipal Chief Executive for Juaben, Mr. Omane Aboagye in collaboration with the Agriculture department has distributed 10,000 palm seedlings to farmers in the Municipality.

The palm seedlings distribution is under the Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD) programme supported by the Minerals Commission of Ghana in fulfilment of the government objectives of economic empowerment and food security.

Juaben is known as one of the hubs for oil palm plantations because of the existence of the Juaben Oil Mills, which provides a ready market for farmers.

This, according to the MCE, provided a fine opportunity for farmers to embrace the PERD programme to support the local factory to grow and also boast the local economy.

He said, the PERD programme is in phases and more farmers would be covered, government programme of Ghana land restoration and small scale mining programme has supplied 35,000 oil palm, 68, 000 cocoa seedlings and 6, 000 coconuts to farmers in Juaben Municipality.

Mr. Omane continued that, this (PERD) programme is a decentralized national tree crop programme to promote rural economic growth and improve seedlings.

The MCE encouraged the beneficiaries to maximized this opportunity to improve their house income so that they can have a success stories to tell.
