The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Juaben, Mr. Omane Aboagye, has handed over an ultra- modern sanitary facility to the residents of Mmorontou in the Juaben Municipality of the Ashanti Region to improve upon sanitation there. The facility comprised of water closet toilet for both male and females, bathrooms, urinals and mechanized borehole to provide water to the facility.
Speaking at the handing over of the facility at a short ceremony, the MCE said the project was in line with government vision to improve upon sanitation challenges within the Municipality since the old toilet facility posed health risk to them and residents around. He indicated that the facility would serve a good purpose and help improve sanitation in the area. “It is imperative that we, as residents, take ownership of this facility and ensure that it remains clean and well-maintained”, He added.
Mr. Aboagye stated that private entities could always partner with governmental institutions for developmental projects. He explained that government agencies such as the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) were often cash-strapped and could not initiate or complete existing projects. The MCE noted that the agreement between Nana Kontoh took the form of Build, Operate, and Transfer (BOT), adding that the Municipal Assembly will reclaim the facility after some years.
Nana Kontoh who is a Professional Electrical Engineer, Vice chairman for sanitation (Ashanti region), member of Ashanti regional electrical association and Akyeamehene at Antoa krobo was the one who partnered with the assembly to build this ultra-modern toilet facility. Mr. Kontoh called on the managers to inculcate a maintenance culture to ensure the facility served the purpose for which it was built.
They completed even ahead of schedule, taking into consideration the inconveniences people go through daily when nature calls. “This facility will not only improve hygiene standards but also contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment for everyone”, Nana Added. Nana reiterated his call for collective responsibility in ensuring the facility’s sustainability. “Let us pledge to uphold cleanliness and proper sanitation practices.”
