The Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD) for Juaben Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti Region, Dr. Stephen Lurimuah has commissioned a 20 – seater water closet toilet and 4-bathroom facility for the residents of Zongo to improve sanitation in the municipality. The beneficiary communities were Zongo, Mmorontuo electoral area, a suburb of Juaben and other surrounding communities.
At a short ceremony to hand over the facility to the community members, the Coordinating Director who spoke on behalf of the MCE praised the Contractor for a good work done. He was happy with the quality of work and level of efficiency of the Contractor.
Dr. Lurimuah continued that with such modern toilet facility, Juaben municipality was on course to end rampant open defecation in these areas. He also urged the beneficiaries of the toilet facility to ensure regular maintenance to prolong its life span.
The Head of Environmental Department for Juaben Municipal Assembly, Mr. Agyei Richard cautioned the residents of Zongo community to put stop to open defecation since there is a public toilet in the community and for that matter if the sanitation workers caught anybody with such unhealthy manner, the culprit will be arrest by the Police for the laws to work.
The Assembly Member of Mmorontuo electoral area and Presiding Member for the Assembly, Mr. Osei Tutu also said that, the new toilet facility would go a long way to enhance sanitation in the area. He pleaded with the residents of Zongo community to maintain him as their Assembly Member on the upcoming election to help complete the toilet facility at Mmorontuo in order to ease pressure on the Zongo toilet facility.
The Chief of Zongo community, Alhaji Salifu Abdul Karim who chaired the occasion commended the Assembly and the Contractor for such a modern toilet facility. He advised the residents to keep the environment clean for a healthy living.
