NCCE INAUGURATES INTER-PARTY DIALOGUE COMMITTEE IN JUABEN

The Juaben Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Ashanti Region has inaugurated its inter-party dialogue committee (IPDC) for peaceful and political stability ahead of the upcoming December 7th general elections.

The inaugural meeting brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from the security services, various political parties, the electoral commission, persons with disabilities (PWDs), traditional Council, religious organizations, Ghana National Tailors and Dressmakers Association (GNTDA) and the media. The initiative is part of the commission’s mandates to educate citizens and ensure peace in the upcoming general elections in December.

In an address by Mr. Kodjo Adjormadoh, Municipal Director for the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) emphasized the importance of maintaining peace before, during and after elections. Speaking at the inauguration, he said the upcoming general elections presented a critical time for the country and it was important to ensure that voters were well informed and ensured for a peaceful election. The NCCE director said the IPDC was to focus on potential threats such as violence, religious and ethnic intolerance, misinformation and disinformation that might result in violence and affect the peaceful conduct of the elections.

Mr. Adjormadoh encouraged the committee members to execute their assigned tasks diligently to help preserve the peace we have in the country and the IPDC would help monitor and resolve cases of breach of rules and regulations governing the conduct of the elections. Speaking at the meeting the Juaben Municipal police commander ASP Samuel Asare who doubled as chairman of the inauguration encouraged the committee members to be an ambassador of peace before, during and after the general elections.

ASP. Asare highlighted the consequences of not ensuring a peaceful election to the committee members and they are not going to allow anyone to disturb the peace we have in the country. He said the Law would not favour any political party or any group of persons in the coming elections and that their efforts could be in vain if Ghanaians create an unstable environment during the upcoming elections.

Representative from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) were also present to stress the importance of the IPDC committee and to remind participants of their role and responsibilities in enforcing peace by conducting their duties professionally. During an open forum, the various stakeholders present at the meeting pledged their commitment to ensuring the message reaches the grassroots so that they can continue to enjoy the peace in the municipality and the country at large.

They also expressed their profound gratitude to the NCCE for the formation of the IPDC in the municipality and holding such meeting for the betterment of the country. Representative from political parties were as follows National Democratic Congress (NDC), New Patriotic Party (NPP), Convention People’s Party (CPP), and other stakeholders.
