Certain alleged “wee dealers” in the Juaben Municipality of the Ashanti Region attacked and injured police officers with pestle, sticks and stones on 31st March, 2023.
Some young men and women numbering about eight (8) confronted two (2) community police officers, who are Kusi Lawrence, 26 years and Benjamin Benyame, 33 years, at their residences and beat them with pestle, sticks and stones. The two (2) victims were severely injured with blood was oozing from their mouths and noses and have been hospitalized at Juaben Government Hospital for treatment.
The Assembly member for Juaben Abesim_Daaman electoral area, Hon. Ransford Osei disclosed that Police in the area had arrested a friend of those alleged “wee dealers”. The two (2) community police officers who are the victims were reported to have taken One Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢1000) from the “wee dealers” under the guise of giving it to the Police Commander for the swift release of their friend.
He continued that, the “wee dealers” waited for a while without any affirmative results then they went to the Police station and discovered that, the two (2) Community police officers did not give the money to their Superiors for the release of their friend as promised and so got agitated.
Hon. Ransford concluded that, the illegal drugs dealers went to the various homes of the police officers and attacked them with pestle, sticks and stones to vent their anger and request for their money back.
Six (6) persons among those alleged “wee dealers” have been arrested by Juaben police officers on 31st March and 1st April, 2023 and were remanded for two (2) weeks by the Juaben Circuit Court on Wednesday 5th April, 2023 for further investigations.
