The Juaben Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) on 31st October, 2025 embarked on a mobile van sensitization campaign to raise awareness on mental health among residents of New Koforidua, Nobewom, Adumasa and surrounding communities.
The outreach formed part of the Commission’s ongoing public education efforts aimed at promoting good mental well-being and reducing stigma associated with mental health conditions.

Using a public address system mounted on a mobile van, civic educators moved through the communities creating awareness about the causes, signs, and effects of poor mental health, as well as the need for early intervention and community support for affected persons.
Residents were encouraged to pay attention to their mental and emotional well-being, seek professional help when necessary, and show compassion to people experiencing mental health challenges. The team also highlighted the importance of family and community involvement in supporting recovery and preventing neglect of persons with mental disorders.
Ms. Vera Antwiwaa Agyen of NCCE explained that mental health is an essential aspect of national development and called on all stakeholders, including families, schools, and religious institutions, to help eliminate misconceptions surrounding mental illness.
The sensitization exercise, which was conducted both at dawn and dusk to reach a wider audience, was carried out under the auspices of SOS Children’s Villages Ghana in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service.
