The Juaben Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), in partnership with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, and with funding support from the European Union (EU), on 29th August, 2025 organized a civic forum in Juaben to sensitize out-of-school youth on the negative impact of corruption.
The engagement also emphasized the need for the youth to uphold the principles of the rule of law as a foundation for good governance, peace and sustainable development.
Speaking at the event, the Juaben Municipal Director of the NCCE, Mr. Kodjo Adjormadoh noted that corruption continues to undermine national progress by diverting resources meant for public good into private hands. He stressed that empowering young people with civic knowledge is crucial in building a responsible and law-abiding society.
The Resource person, Mrs. Bertha Zaazie of Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) who addressed the participants highlighted the dangers of corruption, including loss of public trust in institutions, limited opportunities for the youth, and the weakening of democratic governance. She called on the participants to reject dishonest practices, resist inducements, and serve as role models in their communities.

During an interactive session, the out-of-school youth shared their experiences and concerns, citing challenges such as abuse of public office, delays in justice delivery, and misuse of state resources. Many expressed their readiness to contribute to the fight against corruption by being vigilant, reporting wrongdoing and upholding integrity in their daily lives.
The programme forms part of the NCCE’s nationwide initiative to promote transparency, accountability and active citizenship, especially among the youth who represent the future leadership of the country. It also falls in line with the implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Action Plan (NACAP), which seeks to curb corruption and promote a culture of integrity across all sectors of Ghanaian society.
The Juaben Municipal Directorate of the NCCE expressed its appreciation to GIZ GmbH and the European Union for their support in making the engagement possible.
