The Juaben Municipal Health Directorate has taken a proactive step in promoting the health and well-being of its community members by organizing breast cancer screening and awareness exercise on 28th October 2025.

Held at the Juaben Old Circuit Court premises, the program offered free cancer screenings, blood pressure checks, weight monitoring, and counselling on regular health check-ups.

The event, themed “A Cure Worth Fighting For,” kicked off with a health walk through Juaben’s principal streets, featuring impactful inscriptions such as “Prioritize breast exams,” “Breast cancer is deadly,” “Breast cancer is curable,” “Early detection saves lives,” and “Together, we can reduce cancer cases,” among others.

Speaking at the event, Municipal Director of Ghana Health Service, Mrs. Jualina Akomea Opoku stated that the exercise aimed to raise awareness on breast cancer prevention and early detection, highlighting the rights and well-being of women and older persons. She emphasized the need for early detection and proper treatment, noting that breast cancer affects both young and older women, with significant impacts on families and communities.

She urged community members to seek screening and self-examination as a life-saving practice and to know their status before it’s too late. Mrs. Akomea Opoku also called for an end to the stigma surrounding breast cancer victims and advised pregnant women to visit nearby hospitals for regular medical care.

Mr. Caleb Adu Agyemang, Presiding Member (PM) for Juaben Municipal Assembly, who represented the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Mr. Owusu Achiaw stressed the importance of self-examination, encouraging women to conduct regular check-ups to identify potential issues early.

He emphasized that breast cancer affects the entire community, urging market women to take advantage of the free screening opportunity. The event provided free health checks, including breast cancer screening, cervical cancer screening, TB screening, and blood pressure screening, while educating participants on the importance of regular screenings and early detection in combating breast cancer.

Hundreds of Juaben natives, students, and residents from surrounding communities were screened by healthcare professionals.
