53-year-old Businessman Crowned Overall Best Farmer in Juaben Municipality

A 53-year-old Bussinman and native of Juaben in the Ashanti Region,Mr. Amos Kwabena Osei has been honoured as the overall Best Farmer, during the 41st National Farmers Day Celebration held in Peminase.

The recognition highlighted his exceptional dedication and contribution to Agriculture.

Mr. Kwabena Osei is engaged in animal husbandry rearing of animals such as cattle, goats, pigs, sheep, cat fish and also involved in poultry farming.

He also owns crop farming and cocoa plantation in different communities within Juaben Municipality.

For his prize, he took home with a tricycle popularly known in our local parlance as Aboboyaa, a pair of wellington boots, a knapsack spraying machine, cutlasses, a certificate and farm inputs.

Among the notable winners was Nana Kofi Mpiani,
a 52-year-old farmer from Juaben, who received the Best Municipal Cocoa Farmer Award and was honoured by Ghana Cocobod.

In total, 16 outstanding farmers were celebrated for their efforts, in an event on the theme; “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future”

Mr. Amos Kwabena Osei expressed his appreciation to the agriculture department for their guidance and the Municipal Assembly for their continuous support.

“He urged fellow farmers, especially the youth, to fully embrace farming, noting that agriculture had enabled him to build a hotel and send three of his children abroad.”

Mr. Amos also appealed to the government to introduce soft loans for farmers,
citing finance constraints as a major challenge preventing many youth from venturing into farming.

Mr. Alex Adu-Gyamfi, Municipal Agric Director, urged farmers to consult agricultural extension officers in their communities for guidance to boost farm yields.

“Mrs. Eunice Ohenewaa Ansu, Municipal Chief Executive for Juaben, praised farmers for their hard work in sustaining the local economy, emphasizing their crucial role as the backbone of national development.

The theme, she noted, highlights Ghana’s commitment to ensuring food security for future generations.

Under the NDC government’s Agriculture Modernization Agenda, key initiatives include the Nkoko Nkitinkiti Poultry Industrialization Initiative, Agricultural Modernization Fund, expanded mechanization services, irrigation development, youth agribusiness programs, and support for value addition and agro-processing.

These initiatives, according to the MCE, would go a long way to reduce food imports, boost local production, and create jobs.”

The chief of Peminase Nana Kofi Owusu lll, who chaired the occasion, commended the National Democratic Congress (NDC) led administration for their various Agric interventions aimed to improve agriculture and the lives of farmers.

The event was attended by prominent dignitaries, including Dr. Stephen Lurimuah, Municipal Coordinating Director; Mr. Caleb Adu Agyemang, Presiding Member of the Juaben Municipal Assembly; heads of departments; assembly members; clergy; traditional leaders; and representatives from security agencies.”
